Zhen Zeng

Zhen Zeng is a Principal at Deerfield Management in New York, where he focuses on investments within the biotechnology and therapeutics sectors. He joined the firm in August 2021, leveraging his deep expertise in biostatistics and healthcare analytics on the Therapeutics team, identifying and guiding high-potential biotech opportunities.

Prior to joining Deerfield, Zhen served as Vice President of Equity Research on the Biotechnology Team at Morgan Stanley, covering public and private biotechnology companies and providing detailed industry research for institutional investors. His earlier experience includes a role as Senior Scientist in Biostatistics at Merck, where he contributed to drug development and statistical analyses for clinical trials, further building his technical foundation in life sciences investing.

Zhen holds a Ph.D. in Biostatistics and a Master’s degree in Human Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh, along with advanced degrees in Biochemistry and Bioengineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Harbin Institute of Technology, respectively. He is recognized for his ability to blend rigorous scientific evaluation with investment acumen in biotech and healthcare, and has made significant contributions to healthcare equity research and therapeutics due diligence throughout his career.
