Tom Claugus

Tom Claugus is the President and founder of GMT Capital Corp., an Atlanta-based investment firm established in 1993. He leads the firm in managing hedge fund strategies, with oversight of the Bay Resource Partners Funds, and is responsible for GMT Capital’s overall investment direction and operations.

His investment focus is broad, with expertise in long and short equity strategies across global markets and multiple sectors, including energy, industrials, chemicals, and aviation—notably with large holdings in companies such as Delta Air Lines and various energy firms. Claugus is also deeply involved in oil and gas exploration through leadership positions at GMT Exploration Co. and Strategic Oil & Gas Ltd..

Claugus holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating with high distinction. Prior to founding GMT, he was Manager of the Europe Polymers Division at Rohm & Haas Co., and has served on the board of Paramount Resources Ltd. Under his management, GMT Capital's hedge funds have delivered strong long-term performance and have been recognized for their disciplined, value-driven, and risk-aware approach.
