David Schawel

David Schawel is the Chief Investment Officer at Family Management Corporation, a New York-based wealth management firm, where he has overseen investment strategy since November 2017. In this role, he leads asset allocation and portfolio management for high net worth individuals, families, and not-for-profit organizations, supervising nearly $3 billion in assets under management.

Schawel specializes in diversified, multi-asset investing, with focus areas that include fixed income, public and private equities, investment trusts, closed-end funds, and high-income asset strategies. His approach is noted for being holistic, incorporating both traditional and alternative asset classes to achieve risk-adjusted returns for client portfolios.

Prior to joining Family Management Corporation, Schawel served as Portfolio Manager at New River Investments, where he managed private investment portfolios with an emphasis on opportunistic income strategies, and as Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Square 1 Bank, overseeing the institution's securities portfolio and participating in the investment committee for Square 1 Asset Management. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a finance concentration from North Carolina State University.
