Thomas McKinstry

Thomas J. McKinstry, CFA, serves as Head of Investments and Chief Investment Officer at MainStreet Investment Advisors, LLC, based in Chicago, Illinois. He leads the firm's investment team, overseeing all aspects of portfolio management, asset allocation, investment policy, and research functions for the company’s diverse institutional and private wealth client base. In his role, McKinstry is responsible for formulating MainStreet’s investment outlook, developing strategic and tactical asset allocation, and guiding the firm’s market positioning.

McKinstry's expertise encompasses a range of asset classes, including U.S. and global equities, fixed income, and alternative investments. He leads the development of customized investment solutions for wealth advisors, such as Direct Indexing, separately managed accounts (SMAs), and fund allocation portfolios. He regularly provides market and economic perspectives, with a focus on current market conditions, opportunities in fixed income, and key risks facing long-term investors.

Prior to joining MainStreet Investment Advisors, McKinstry held roles as Manager of Investment Research at both MainStreet and MB Financial Bank, and he has previous experience as a securities analyst at Fifth Third Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Colgate University and is a CFA charterholder, reflecting his deep expertise in portfolio strategy, multi-asset class research, and institutional investment management.
