Richard Bernstein

Richard Bernstein is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer at Richard Bernstein Advisors LLC, a firm he founded in 2009. Based in New York, he oversees all investment strategies and executive management functions for the firm, whose clients include financial advisors and institutions. As CIO, he leads RBA’s Investment Committee in managing multi-asset portfolios, with a focus on global equity and fixed income ETF strategies, and is recognized for producing widely-read market insights.

Bernstein specializes in macro-driven, top-down asset allocation, particularly in analyzing global equity, fixed income, and style investing. His approach centers on identifying large-scale economic and market trends rather than picking individual stocks, and he is noted for his expertise in style allocation and equity sectors.

With over 40 years of Wall Street experience—including as Chief Investment Strategist at Merrill Lynch—Bernstein has earned Institutional Investor magazine's "All-America Research Team" distinction eighteen times and is in its Hall of Fame. He holds an A.B. in Economics from Hamilton College and an MBA in Finance from NYU Stern. Bernstein is actively involved in industry governance and education, serving as a trustee of Hamilton College, an advisor to the Journal of Portfolio Management, and has authored seminal texts on investment strategy.
