Bob Kocher

Bob Kocher, MD, is a Partner at Venrock, where he leads investments in health technology and healthcare services. Based in Palo Alto, Dr. Kocher specifically focuses on healthcare IT, digital health, value-based care, and tech-enabled services, and he sits on the boards of innovative companies such as Devoted Health, Virta Health, Aledade, Lyra Health, Sitka, Need, Accompany Health, and Premera Blue Cross.

Prior to joining Venrock in 2011, Dr. Kocher served as Special Assistant to President Barack Obama for Healthcare and Economic Policy as part of the National Economic Council, where he played a significant role in shaping the Affordable Care Act with a focus on cost, quality, and delivery reforms. He was also a partner at McKinsey & Company, leading work in healthcare economics and advising healthcare systems on policy, clinical outcomes, and productivity, and co-founded several public health initiatives, including the Health Data Initiative.

Dr. Kocher earned dual undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington, an MD from The George Washington University School of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He currently holds adjunct academic positions at Stanford University and USC, further contributing expertise to major advisory boards in healthcare policy and innovation, and is recognized as a leading Silicon Valley investor in healthcare transformation.
