David Wells

David Wells is the Chief Portfolio Strategist and a Managing Director at Angel Oak Capital Advisors, LLC, based in Atlanta, GA. In this role, he acts as a bridge between portfolio managers, the U.S. wealth distribution team, and clients, driving firm-wide product and portfolio strategy while fueling thought leadership for the organization. He is responsible for the firm’s growth efforts across key distribution channels, notably within wirehouses and broker-dealers in the Northeast region.

David specializes in structured credit, fixed income, mortgage-backed securities (MBS), commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), and asset-backed securities, overseeing strategies that deliver investment solutions in these sectors. His background also includes experience as a Senior Bond Trader and extensive work in business development, reinforcing his cross-functional expertise within Angel Oak since its inception.

Before joining Angel Oak, David worked at SunTrust, where he managed a $3 billion CMBS portfolio, a $10 billion agency mortgage pass-through position, and a commercial mortgage loan warehouse valued at $500 million. He holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Georgia and an M.B.A. from Mercer University, highlighting his strong foundation in finance and applied investment management.
