George Ortega

George Ortega is Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Alger, based in New York, where he oversees multiple growth-focused investment strategies, including the Alger 35, Alger Dynamic Opportunities, and Alger Dynamic Return strategies. In this capacity, he is responsible for all aspects of portfolio management, including security selection, risk oversight, and implementation of growth equity and long/short equity strategies across U.S. equities.

He has developed particular expertise in managing concentrated large-cap growth portfolios and dynamic, multi-asset strategies that seek to capitalize on both long and short opportunities. His investment approach frequently targets innovative sectors within the U.S. equity markets, with a strong focus on technology, healthcare, and consumer growth industries as evidenced by the composition and mandate of the strategies he manages.

Prior to his current appointment as Portfolio Manager, Ortega held roles of increasing responsibility at Alger, most recently as Senior Vice President and Assistant Portfolio Manager, and previously as Vice President and Analyst. He holds a degree in Economics from Yale University and completed his preparatory education at The Dalton School, reflecting a strong foundation in economic theory and quantitative analysis. Ortega is recognized within the firm for his analytical rigor and has contributed to Alger’s industry recognition in the active growth investing space.
