Sam Smith

Sam Smith, CFA, is a Principal and Portfolio Manager at Peregrine Capital Management LLC, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He leads the Small Cap Growth investment team, sharing responsibility for fundamental research, stock selection, and portfolio management. As an owner of the firm, he is integral in shaping Peregrine's small-cap growth strategy and client outcomes.

Smith's primary focus is on U.S. small-cap growth equities, specializing in identifying high-potential companies poised for significant expansion. He is deeply involved in all aspects of the investment process, from idea generation to portfolio construction, emphasizing bottom-up, fundamental analysis within the small cap space.

Sam joined Peregrine in 2006 as a Portfolio Assistant, advancing to Senior Analyst and then Portfolio Manager. He holds a B.A. in Financial Management and Economics from the University of St. Thomas and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation. Beyond his portfolio duties, he has contributed to the investment community as a past board member and chair of the Advocacy and Public Awareness Committee with CFA Society Minnesota.
