Kai Pan

Kai Pan, PhD, is a Senior Research Analyst and Associate Portfolio Manager at Wasatch Global Investors, where he has worked since 2019. Based in New York, Dr. Pan is a key member of the Greater China research team and focuses on emerging markets, with an emphasis on China and the broader Asia-Pacific region. His specific sector coverage includes property and casualty insurance as well as broader financials, drawing on decades of experience evaluating public companies in these markets.

Before joining Wasatch, Dr. Pan served as Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, where he spent nine years as a sell-side analyst specializing in property-and-casualty insurance equities, including coverage of major firms such as Berkshire Hathaway. Earlier in his career, he was Vice President and Senior Analyst at FrontPoint Partners / Stadia Capital, a long/short equity fund within Morgan Stanley Investment Management, and also contributed to catastrophe risk modeling in Silicon Valley.

Dr. Pan brings a multidisciplinary perspective to investment research with a PhD in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, an MBA in Management and Finance from New York University, and a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University. He is recognized for his expertise in both technical and financial analysis and has contributed significantly to Wasatch’s capability in conducting in-depth on-the-ground research in Greater China and emerging markets.
