Georgetown University
The Georgetown University Student Investment Fund (GUSIF), founded in 1997 by undergraduates at the McDonough School of Business, is the university's largest undergraduate student-run investment fund. Based in Washington, DC, GUSIF is managed by students who oversee capital on behalf of the Georgetown endowment and the Georgetown University Alumni Association. The fund serves dual purposes: fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities through market-competitive returns and providing rigorous investment education and hands-on experience to its members, who go on to prestigious roles in finance. The fund supports a fluctuating membership, with recent counts around 80 to 124 active students.
Investment Strategy
GUSIF's investment strategy is focused on thorough fundamental research to identify undervalued U.S. equities across six industry sectors: technology, media, telecom; consumer and retail; healthcare; industrials and natural resources; financials; and real estate, gaming, and lodging. The fund's primary goals are to outperform the S&P 500 with lower volatility, while building market expertise and professional maturity among its members. Its dual mandate stresses both fiduciary discipline and robust student education, leveraging close alumni engagement and mentorship.
