Andrew Frieman

Andrew Frieman is Managing Director and Head of Business Development at Contrarian Capital Management, based in New York. In this role, he leads the firm’s global business development initiatives, managing key relationships with institutional investors, family offices, and wealth management platforms. His responsibilities include expanding the firm’s investor base and supporting Contrarian’s fundraising and marketing strategies.

Contrarian Capital Management is recognized for its focus on distressed debt, opportunistic credit, and special situations across both private equity and real estate asset classes. Mr. Frieman plays a central role in positioning the firm’s strategies to prospective partners, particularly within these sectors.

Previously, Frieman was Managing Director at Lyster Watson & Company, where he oversaw global strategic development, and Director of Marketing at CDK Group LLC, a hedge fund advisory firm. He began his career at The Blackstone Group and Scudder Kemper Investments, gaining early experience in alternative investments, M&A, and equity research within sectors such as real estate and chemicals. He holds a BS in Finance from Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management.
