David Steinhardt

David Steinhardt is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Contrarian Capital Management, L.L.C., based in New York, where he leads the Contrarian Valdis Fund. In this role, he is responsible for sourcing, analyzing, and managing investment opportunities with a focus on value-oriented, event-driven equity and debt securities, as well as overseeing special-situation and distressed investments across developed markets.

Prior to joining Contrarian in 2022, Steinhardt held investment roles at Litespeed Management as an Analyst specializing in event-driven strategies, and previously at Alden Global Capital and Perella Weinberg Partners, where he advanced from Associate to Director within the Asset Based Value Strategy group. Throughout his career, he has developed significant expertise in distressed debt, special situations, and private equity across multiple sectors, including corporate restructurings and complex capital structures.

Steinhardt holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, having been selected for both the Value Investing Program and the Private Equity Fellows Program, and graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He is recognized for his rigorous analytical approach and his contributions to identifying and managing value-oriented opportunities within contrarian investment strategies.
