Brett Rowland

Brett Rowland is the Co-Portfolio Manager at Contrarian Capital Management, LLC, based in Greenwich, CT, where he leads investment strategy and execution for the firm’s Real Estate Fund series. His responsibilities center on sourcing, evaluating, and managing distressed real estate debt and equity investments, with a particular focus on inefficiently priced, small- to mid-sized property markets and whole loans backed by commercial real estate assets. Mr. Rowland’s investment scope covers various property types including office, retail, multifamily, and hotels, and he has significant expertise in opportunistic and value-add real estate strategies in both the U.S. and select global markets.

Rowland joined Contrarian in 2003 after serving as an Associate at J.P. Morgan Partners Private Equity Real Estate Group, where he specialized in principal investments in the real estate sector. Earlier in his career, he worked at Vornado Realty Trust, focusing on acquisitions, development, and capital markets, and as an Associate in Real Estate Investment Banking at Lazard Freres & Co.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, providing a strong analytical foundation for his work in real estate capital markets. Throughout his career, Rowland has contributed to the growth and performance of Contrarian’s real estate funds and is recognized for his deep experience in distressed asset workouts and creative investment structuring in the real estate sector.
