Gil Tenzer

Gil Tenzer is a founding partner and the Director of Real Estate Investments at Contrarian Capital Management, LLC, based in Greenwich, Connecticut. At Contrarian, he oversees sourcing, management, and disposition for the firm's real estate investments, driving strategy across dedicated real estate funds and mid-market opportunistic value-add projects throughout the United States.

His investment focus is on inefficiently priced real estate equity and debt opportunities that span all major U.S. property sectors and geographies. Tenzer targets mid-sized investments typically in the $10–25 million range, specializing in value enhancement through active management—often in assets overlooked by larger institutions. Beyond real estate, he has taken active roles in Contrarian's corporate investments and has chaired creditor and bondholder committees in distressed situations.

Previously, Tenzer was Co-Head of the High-Yield Real Estate Group at Oppenheimer & Co. and served as an analyst and asset manager for Arthur G. Cohen, overseeing acquisitions in real estate, lodging, restaurant, aviation, and manufacturing sectors. He holds a BSBA from Georgetown University (cum laude) and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Tenzer's expertise and strategic leadership have been instrumental in establishing Contrarian Capital as a leading institutional investor across distressed and special situation real estate assets.
