Ben Owens

Ben Owens is a Senior Analyst at Merewether Investment Management, LP, a Dallas-based energy-focused long-short equity fund. In this role, he is responsible for conducting in-depth fundamental and quantitative research across the global energy value chain, including upstream, midstream, refining, utilities, energy-linked industrials, renewables, and new fuel sources. His work centers on identifying mispricings in public equity markets by analyzing asset economics, commodity markets, and the impact of new energy technologies on traditional energy sectors.

Owens specializes in the energy sector, with a particular focus on equities spanning the entire energy value chain. He leverages detailed quantitative analysis of upstream assets, type curves, and physical commodity markets (oil, natural gas, NGLs, and basis markets) to inform investment decisions. His expertise enables the firm to assess the rate of adoption of new energy sources and their disruptive effects on established energy businesses.

Prior to joining Merewether Investment Management in March 2025, Owens held analyst roles at Millennium and ExodusPoint Capital Management, LP, where he further developed his skills in energy and equity research. He holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, with a background in accounting and finance. Owens is recognized for his rigorous analytical approach and contributions to energy sector investment strategies, bringing a blend of quantitative and fundamental expertise to his work.
