Richard Mak

Richard Mak, CFA, is a Portfolio Manager at Hotchkis & Wiley Capital Management LLC, based in Newport Beach, California. He is jointly and primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm’s High Yield bond portfolios, participating in investment research, portfolio construction, and decision-making for these strategies.

Mak's investment expertise is focused on high yield credit markets, with particular emphasis on U.S. high yield corporate bonds. His previous experience includes a significant tenure at PIMCO, where he served in roles ranging from credit analyst to high yield portfolio manager, primarily managing internal high yield funds and conducting fundamental credit research. Earlier in his career, Mak was an equity analyst at Epoch Partners, covering telecommunications equipment and technology sectors.

He holds both a BA in Business Economics with a minor in Accounting and an MBA with concentrations in Finance and Strategy from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Over his 24-year investment career, Mak has built a reputation for rigorous credit analysis and portfolio management in the high yield sector, contributing to the firm’s high yield strategies and participating in the broader investment team’s research and risk oversight.
