Michael Rader

Michael Rader is Senior Vice President, Real Estate at Contrarian Capital Management, based in the New York City Metropolitan Area. In this role, he leads the firm’s real estate investment initiatives, focusing on sourcing, underwriting, and managing distressed and opportunistic real estate investments for institutional clients. Contrarian Capital Management is a specialist in distressed and special situation asset classes, and Michael’s work directly supports its real estate platform, which is a core segment of the firm’s alternative investment strategies.

Prior to joining Contrarian Capital Management in 2016, Michael served as Vice President of Acquisitions at CPG Real Estate, where he was responsible for originating and executing commercial real estate acquisitions across diverse markets. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Associate in Investment Management at Torchlight Investors, focusing on real estate debt and equity investments, further honing his analytical and transactional expertise across a range of property sectors.

Michael holds a BS in Finance and Management Information Systems from Binghamton University’s School of Management. His professional background spans the full real estate capital stack—including direct property acquisitions, distressed assets, and structured finance—making him a recognized specialist in opportunistic and value-add investment strategies within commercial real estate.
