Peter Zuckerman

Peter Zuckerman is Managing Director and Co-Portfolio Manager at Contrarian Capital Management, L.L.C., where he has served since 2017. In this role, he co-heads the Contrarian Distressed Debt Fund, focusing on sourcing and managing investments in developed markets, with a particular emphasis on credit opportunities involving mid- to large-sized companies. His responsibilities cover the full investment cycle, including acquisitions, underwriting and analysis, and playing active roles in creditor groups for distressed situations.

His primary expertise centers on distressed credit and special situations, targeting sectors impacted by financial or operational distress and complex restructurings. Prior to Contrarian, Zuckerman was an Investment Analyst at Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co., specializing in U.S. distressed credit. Earlier in his career, he practiced restructuring law at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and worked as an interest rate derivatives trader at Deutsche Bank AG, providing a strong foundation in both legal and quantitative investment strategies.

Peter Zuckerman holds a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review, and an AB magna cum laude from Harvard College, also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He is a CFA charterholder, underscoring his expertise in investment analysis and portfolio management, and is recognized for his rigorous approach in distressed, credit, and special situations investing.
