D.J. Shaughnessy, CFA, CFP®, is a Portfolio Manager at HM Payson & Co. in Brunswick, Maine, where he manages diversified client portfolios across multiple asset classes, including U.S. and international equities, fixed income, mutual funds, and exchange-traded funds. His responsibilities include active portfolio construction, asset allocation, investment analysis, and customizing strategies to meet each client’s financial objectives. Shaughnessy also participates in the oversight of the Payson Total Return Fund, an open-end mutual fund advised by the firm.

He brings more than 25 years of experience in portfolio management, asset allocation, and client development, previously serving as Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at F.L. Putnam Investment Management Company, where he helped oversee $1.7 billion in assets. Earlier in his career, he was an Investment Analyst at Bowdoin College, further deepening his expertise in institutional investment management. His investment focus spans equities, fixed income, alternative assets, and strategic allocation for high-net-worth and institutional clients.

Shaughnessy holds an MBA from Babson College’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
