Peter Robbins

Peter E. Robbins, CFA, serves as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Investment Officer, and Co-Manager of the Payson Total Return Fund at H.M. Payson & Co., a Portland, Maine-based investment advisory firm. He has led the firm since 1981, overseeing investment strategy, portfolio management, and client relationship development, and also acts as Treasurer.

Robbins’ expertise spans equity and fixed income markets, with a particular focus on total return strategies and a long-term, risk-conscious approach. He has navigated clients through a wide range of market cycles, notably advocating caution during the technology bubble of the 1990s and the 2008 financial crisis, prioritizing disciplined investment processes and transparent client communication.
