Zachary Shafran

Zachary H. Shafran is the Co-Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager at Meritage Portfolio Management in the Kansas City area, where he leads the Meritage Growth Equity strategy. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing portfolio construction, managing sector allocations, and implementing a disciplined, multi-factor investment process to identify high-quality growth opportunities.

Shafran’s expertise spans growth equity investments across sectors, including technology, healthcare, and science-driven industries, reflecting his long-standing experience managing science and technology-focused portfolios. Before joining Meritage, he spent over 30 years at Waddell & Reed (later Ivy Investments), where he served as Portfolio Manager and Co-Manager for the firm's Science and Technology Fund and as Director of Global Equity and Fixed Income Research. He began his investment career as a healthcare analyst and has also held roles at Macquarie Group.

He holds both a BBA and MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is a member of the CFA Institute and the Kansas City Society of Financial Analysts. Shafran is recognized for his sector-level insights and his leadership in multi-factor growth equity investing, contributing to the strategic direction of portfolios exceeding $2 billion in assets.
