Louisiana State Employees Retirement System
Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS), headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a public pension fund established in 1946 to provide retirement allowances and other benefits to state officers, employees, and their beneficiaries. It is governed by a Board of Trustees and is one of the largest public retirement systems in the state, with over 135 employees serving more than 100,000 members, both active and retired. LASERS manages a large and diversified portfolio focused on serving Louisiana's state workforce and retirees.
Investment Strategy
LASERS administers a qualified defined benefit pension plan under section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. The fund's investment strategy aims to provide a secure and sustainable retirement income for its members through prudent management of assets. Funding is sourced from employee contributions, employer contributions, and investment earnings. LASERS manages about one-third of its portfolio internally to reduce management fees, with the remainder outsourced to external managers across diverse asset classes, balancing long-term growth with risk management to meet the retirement liabilities of the system.
