Dan Murphy

Dan Murphy is Principal and Portfolio Manager at Kovitz Investment Group Partners, leading the Madison, WI office. He oversees the investment team, directing the firm’s investment policies—including asset allocation and security selection—and actively manages client portfolios across equities, fixed income, and balanced strategies. His management includes providing tailored investment solutions for individuals, institutions, and other client types, with a strong emphasis on long-term investment strategies and client-focused portfolio construction.

Murphy’s expertise encompasses equity and fixed income securities, as well as mutual funds and ETFs, specifically serving high-net-worth individuals, institutions, and pension clients from the Madison office. His team focuses on developing diversified portfolios and implementing disciplined, research-driven processes in both traditional and alternative asset classes, suitable for clients seeking long-term results and risk-managed approaches.

Previously, Dan served as Managing Partner at Northern Capital and as Partner and Senior Investment Analyst at Brinson Partners, following an earlier investment officer role at Ameritrust Bank. He is a CFA® Charterholder and a graduate of the Applied Security Analysis and Investment Management Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding both a BBA and an MBA in finance.
