Joel Hirsh

Joel Hirsh is Principal and Co-Chief Investment Officer at Kovitz Investment Group in Chicago, where he oversees the firm's equity research process and portfolio construction for their Core Equity and Hedged Equity strategies. In addition to leading investment strategy, he serves as a voting portfolio manager and plays a key role in developing the firm's long-term strategic planning, including its institutional and family office business lines.

His investment focus is on U.S. equities, applying a fundamental, value-based approach inspired by Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett. Joel directs the selection and management of concentrated, high-quality equity portfolios, particularly within Core Equity and Hedged Equity products, and he leverages options as part of risk management for the firm's hedged strategies.

Joel joined Kovitz in 2006 after working as an equity research analyst at KeyBanc Capital Markets, where he specialized in basic materials. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and is a CFA Charterholder, with published work in industry outlets such as CFA Magazine and features in Bloomberg, the Chicago Sun-Times, and Value Investor Insight.
